A DAY AT Kindle Education
BREAKFAST
Meet Noah, a 6th grade student at Kindle Education. Each morning, Noah arrives to school at 8:30am and enjoys a healthy breakfast with his friends. Studies show that a later start to the school day benefits students physically, socially, emotionally, and cognitively.
SPARK
At 9:00am, on most days, it's time for Spark, a 45-minute advisory class in which Noah develops social-emotional and metacognitive skills, sets goals for life and learning, and builds a sense of purpose. Led by a Spark Coach (teacher) and Assistant Coach (tutor), Noah learns to support his peers and hold himself accountable to consistent progress. Families receive regular communication from coaches and play an active role in supporting their child’s growth.
MATH
Next Noah transitions to his 90-minute math block with his goals for the week in mind. In Math, Noah receives direct instruction and has the opportunity to self-direct his learning while receiving extensive personalized support. Teachers and full-time tutors facilitate Noah's progress through projects and learning pathways based on his skills and goals. As Noah shows a greater propensity for autonomy, his educators gradually release responsibility to him. Learning materials are housed on an online learning platform that Noah, his educators, and his family can access anytime and anywhere, extending opportunities for self-directed learning beyond the classroom.
PE & Art
Noah's next two 45-minute blocks are PE and Art. Four days a week, Noah suits up for PE, where he gets the physical exercise a growing student needs. Noah also spends 45-minutes in Art four days a week, learning how to express himself and master artistic skills.
LUNCH
Now it's time to refuel! Noah enjoys a healthy lunch with friends.
FORGE & SCIENCE
Noah's next two 45-minute blocks of the day are his favorites. The Forge and Science are hands-on, inquiry-based workshops where Noah learns primarily through the completion of projects. Forge class prioritizes whole-child learning using an emergent curriculum approach that is responsive to Noah's interests. In this class, Noah plays a greater role in determining the topics of his work as he progresses through the grade levels. In Science, his projects are aligned with Next Generation Science Standards and build disciplinary knowledge and skills while challenging him not only to learn concepts but to "do" science.
HUMANITIES
Noah is nearing the end of his day. His final 90-minute block is Humanities. Math and Humanities class time often takes the form of a workshop, allowing Noah to work with autonomy and in small groups to complete projects, collaborative learning tasks, and achieve his goals. In this environment, the teacher is free to facilitate learning, providing one-on-one intervention, small group mini-lessons, and whole-class instruction based on each group’s needs and curriculum learning goals.
DISMISSAL & AFTER SCHOOL
After a challenging and engaging day of school, Noah is ready to head home when school lets out at 4pm. Kindle Education also provides after-school programming until 5:30pm.
